The stage adaptation of the 1984 film The Flamingo Kid is in development and will debut on Broadway in spring 2018. The show will feature music by Scott Frankel and a book and lyrics by Robert L. Freedman.
The Flamingo Kid takes place in 1963 and follows Jeffrey Willis, an 18-year-old Brooklynite who takes a job at El Flamingo, a private beach club, where he meets Phill Brody, his new cocky mentor. Jeffrey must stake a stand between his family’s values and Brody’s dishonest ideas.
The 1984 film set off Matt Dillon’s career and it also starred Richard Crenna, Hector Elizondo, Jessica Walter and Janet Jones.
Producers Bob Israel and Larry Hirschhorn have only announced the production being in progress, so more details as regards cast and dates are still to come.
